a schema at last

unearthed

the whole root

some early cruelty

made true

that common

wisdom of cynics

brown liquor visited

upon the young

needled comparison

but at this distance

there is only the

trickling of the creek

and as much beauty

as we can stand

to make

muscat grape

and concord

a score instantiated

in the brain

may be rewritten

a self made way for

by a subject

thankfully diverted

while the rest of us

resume our easeful doing

orange and green

bowls of sun-withered tea

the quatrefoil repeats

evenings that stretch

into the dark

as a god’s

unconscious thought
