this road
has flyte in its name
and we have taken it
so many times
we take it fast
with knowing
though once
we crashed
and can still
recall
gasping for breath
so now we try
in every way to
slow, slow
as we ought
and while the animal
inside us presses
forward, forward
faster, faster
here is where
our talking turns
to speaking
the light behind
trees becomes
listening a beam
enters at the ear
until we can read
every word
hear the battering
against a wall
we papered over
in clear sky
and forgot
