Pitch Drop

It looks so solid
you could walk
on it, build bridges
out of it, pour
the black
unporous streets
core the
driving sea
with tunnels
of wind and light.
Cassel earth and
bitumen, linseed
and turpentine,
when the final
stroke is stricken
we will find
ourselves on
the ground we
thought was
given, poised
for the fall.
