There are shells
we think of as hollow,
shrugged into,
protective mantles
to shelter those who
need them. But most
are not a thing taken up,
but drawn into our
construction, lungs
that breathe without
expansion, fontanelles
where we might still
be struck, and never
once pulled from it.
